Shopping for cute toddler girl clothes = busting the "budget."
We were so incredibly blessed to have TWO baby showers thrown for us and yesterday it was SO exciting to have a friend, Beth and her beautiful daughter Emma, come shopping with me for clothes for Katie. At our shower we got a lot of stuff that is 24 month size because that's what I originally thought she wore, but she is in more of size 18 month right now, I think, based on her weight. We found some awesome deals at Target and Toys R' Us on clothing. I, of course, could NOT resist getting her a lullaby glow worm. I remember having mine when I was very young and sleeping with it through the 2nd grade before I decided I was too old for it. Then, I slept with a cabbage patch kid doll. :-)
I guess I really am aging myself when I mention cabbage patch kids, jelly shoes and New Kids on the Block. Those were some things I remember from my childhood. Oh, and let's not forget Full House, Captain Kangaroo, Garfield and Care Bears. What has happened to those old classic cartoons? I was REALLY hoping to raise Katie on some of the ones I grew up with and some that Aaron grew up around. We BOTH love Winnie the Pooh and just about anything Disney so it was very fitting to have her room decorated in Winnie the pooh and friends!
Anyway, I also saw something on The O'Reilly Factor last night that upset me to my very core. There is a web site-- http://www.birthornot.com, wherein a woman named Alisha Arnold. She is 19 weeks pregnant and basically posted a web site where the general public can go to vote on whether she should have the baby or have an abortion. I couldn't believe what I was reading on that site last night. Aaron told me I should have never went to it because it would upset me and boy, was he right about that! This excuse for a woman has posted ultrasound photos of this unborn child and even went so far as to say that the child is developing unique fingerprints and fatty tissue with skin at this stage. She even posted a 3D ultrasound photo. How callous and cruel can a person be? I mean, mine and Aaron's stance on abortion is 100% PRO-LIFE. But what makes this even more horrific is that she has chosen to make her PRO-CHOICE crap and beliefs a public event. I wonder how she would feel if a blog was posted asking the general public to decide whether she should live or die?
Not to rant anymore about it and ruin a perfectly good day I had yesterday with my friend, Beth and her sweetie named Emma. Anyway, needless to say, I have to learn to be a bargain shopper for these clothes for Katie because dressing little girls is SO much fun! I, myself, am not big on dresses as an adult...but I want Katie to have cute clothing so Aaron says I have to shop on a budget. Guess we are so blessed to have Once Upon a Child right around the corner. That is a NICE consignment store where there are oftentimes baby and toddler items that have barely been used if ever for a good price. And, the best part is you can take your things there and get cash for them!
Anyway, it was SO much fun shopping for our daughter. Poor Aaron, he is going to be outnumbered when it comes to boy/girl votes. Both our cats are girls and then, of course, there's Katie. I even said when we adopt again we would love to have another baby girl. We are considering a semi-open second adoption unless we can find a traditional, closed adoption, domestically of a newborn. As a mother to be, I feel like we missed out on SO much of Katie's life because she is already two; but I fully intend on making up for lost time.
I couldn't be MORE blessed because I have a wonderful, loving, caring husband who works hard to make enough money so that I can stay home with Katie when she comes home and be a constant in this little one's life. From the beginning, when her mother abandoned her at the maternity hospital in Russia, she has not had that. She has been at the baby home in Ussyrisk ever since she was two months old. Her mother was never found and has also abandoned another child who is nine years old. The two of them (Katie--now named Tatiana), do not know about each other. They also have different fathers. If Aaron and I had been married longer and could take an older child we would so that Katie would know her half sister, but there is no way we can afford two children at once. Financially, we are barely making it through this adoption with the costs and fees. But enough about that! Katie is worth every penny and more!
We got so many CUTE clothes yesterday and between that and the baby showers we had we are all set with toys and clothing. But, I am telling you....one walk through Toys R' Us AND there are SO many toys and games for little girls. It is amazing how much they have these days that wasn't around when I was little. There's so much out there to help our little one learn English! I'm just amazed!!! I will DEFINITELY have to stay OUT of Toys R' Us or we won't have any money left each pay period. I could go crazy in that store! I just feel this intense need to give this beautiful baby girl all the things she has never had. But she is so very happy with the simple things in life. She is not going to know what to do with all the toys she has waiting for her. She has so many material things...but MORE than that she has a complete family who are welcoming her with open arms and SO much love. The love is so strong for her that words are not adequate to express it!!! Hang on tight sweetheart because Mommy & Daddy love you and can't wait to bring you home to your new family in the United States!
